Pine wilt caused by pine wood nematode (Bursaphelenchus xylophilus) is a type of forest disease that threatens pine forests also in Japan.
The primary method of exterminating pine sawyers (Monochamus alternatus) that cause pine wilt is to cut the tree down, gather the infected wood and fumigate it.
Shin-Etsu Finetech Co., Ltd. offers the special fumigation sheets (named "Yosaku Sheet" made of biodegradable plastic) used in that process.
